Looking back at the EMERGENCES Workshop – June 30 to July 4 in Le Teich

For one week, the partners of the EMERGENCES project gathered at the Maison de la Nature du Teich to share their progress, experiment together, and strengthen the project’s collective dynamic.
🔹 Two highlight hackathons marked this edition:
-
The first focused on exploring emergent learning methods, inspired by biology, physics, and alternatives to backpropagation. Participants experimented with approaches such as predictive coding and Bayesian networks. In line with the setting, these methods were tested not only on academic datasets but also on a dataset dedicated to predicting wine quality based on physico-chemical properties.
-
The second hackathon aimed at creating a multimodal dataset, showcasing the richness and diversity of data (text, image, audio, sensors…). Participants combined two existing datasets – images and bird songs – and were able to launch the first multimodal learning experiments.
🔹 The working groups (WP1 to WP4) also presented their progress, highlighting the complementarity of approaches and the advances achieved.
Beyond the results, the workshop was above all an opportunity for fruitful scientific discussions and meaningful exchanges, further strengthening the project’s collective dynamic.
EMERGENCES Workshop – A Week of Collaborative Innovation on the Shores of Arcachon Bay!
From June 30 to July 4, the EMERGENCES project partners will gather in Le Teich, in a stunning natural setting, for a workshop combining working sessions and knowledge sharing. On the agenda: an hackathon, presentations from the various work packages (WP1 to WP4), a interactive session on the AIDGE and QUALIA tools, a focus on sustainability with talks from GDR DEFIE and ESOS, and an inspiring visit to the Dune of Pilat. A week rich in ideas and synergy to help shape the embedded technologies of tomorrow!
